Statement on Alfonso Morales settlement
Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic July 13, 2021
As chair of the Council’s Public Safety and Health Committee, I’m glad this is over. Our city is ready to move forward with a permanent chief who is as committed as we are to healing from individual and systemic injustices and to restoring peace for all of our residents and visitors, families, and especially to the precious children who will one day be running this city.

There are a large number of suburban police and fire department personnel who are dying to get hired by the City of Milwaukee. The local fire department came to my house to put out a small fire when a tree fell on the power lines. Every one of the young firefighters said they were trying to get a job in the City of Milwaukee.
I talked to Milwaukee firefighters when they did rescue drills on the Milwaukee River by the North Avenue Bridge and in the Lakeshore State Park lagoons by Summerfest. One of the firefighters lives in the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit. He wanted to live as far away from Milwaukee as he possibly could but he wanted the extremely high pay and benefits granted to him by City of Milwaukee taxpayers. I felt like hurling up the contents of my stomach after he told me that.
