Southern Blues Rocker Paul Thorn Live at Turner Hall Ballroom

Thursday * August 21 * 7 pm Doors | 8 pm Show

By - May 2nd, 2014 06:28 am

Paul Thorn has been pleasing crowds for years with his muscular brand of roots music – bluesy, rocking and thoroughly Southern, yet also speaking universal truths. The Kenosha, WI native but now resides in Tupelo, Mississippi  has drawn comparisons to John Hiatt and John Prine and is hailed as the ‘Mark Twain of Americana.’ Thorn was a professional boxer before sharing his experiences with the world as a singer-songwriter.

His 2010 release Pimps and Preachers, which topped the Americana charts for three weeks and broke into the Billboard Top 100, perfectly exemplified the vivid scope of his songwriting and illuminated his family background. His father is a Church of God Pentecostal Minister and his Uncle spent time as a pimp. Both men influenced him in his formative years and their inspiration is evident in his songwriting.

On his recent release What The Hell Is Going On?, Paul Thorn gives us his versions of songs by some of his favorite writers including Rick Danko of The Band, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Allen Toussaint, Elvin Bishop, and Lindsey Buckingham.
