Eight weeks after arriving in the U.S. Nala, the Egyptian cat, is going to her forever home. But not before she meets her supporters at a special, sold-out, Nala Meet and Greet at Sip & Purr Cat Cafe on April 20th. “Sip & Purr is the first cat cafe to successfully rescue and transport a kitten from Cairo, Egypt to the U.S. Although we were 6,000 miles away, the Sip & Purr community rallied behind us every step of the way. From the moment we found Nala in Cairo, until the time we touched down on U.S. soil, we knew we had the community support behind us. Now, we’re giving our supporters the chance to meet the kitten they’ve been rooting for,” says McHugh.

Rescued by Sip & Purr’s founder, Katy McHugh and her son, Cole 13, during their travels to Cairo, Egypt, Nala was found abandoned in a pet store cage in February 2019. After arriving in Milwaukee, Nala was fostered in McHugh’s home for 8 weeks. Nala received routine veterinary care, human companionship, and the chance to socialize with other cats. “Rescuing Nala saved her life. Fostering Nala gave her the best opportunity at finding a loving forever home, which is always the ultimate goal,” states McHugh.

Next month, McHugh will return to Egypt to bring Hazel, a rescued puppy she met at the Cairo veterinarian clinic that first treated Nala, to America. In February, Hazel was rescued from near drowning in the Nile River. After arriving in the U.S., Hazel will be fostered by McHugh and then adoptable at a special Hazel Meet & Greet held at Sip & Purr in June. “Rescuing Nala was unplanned, but has opened the door to finding homes for more at risk animals. We’re fortunate to be able to help,” says McHugh when speaking about international rescue efforts.

Sip & Purr has also adopted out 14 homeless cats from Doha, Qatar.
