Senseless violence prematurely takes the life of a 17-year-old mother
Statement of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey April 20, 2022
On Easter Sunday a 17-year-old was killed in a shooting that police believe was a road rage incident on North 29th Street near West Courtland Avenue. My heart broke when I heard this news as I thought of the young boy who will now grow up without a mother, and I send my best to the victim’s family and friends during this time of mourning.
This is another tragic loss of life, and in our city homicides have increased year-to-date. As a community we must come together to truly combat this issue. At City Hall we will continue to support violence prevention and intervention programs, and work with the Milwaukee Police Department to make sure they have the resources necessary to be successful. However, we also need the community to understand that guns should never be the answer to any problem.
Our children, friends, family members and neighbors deserve better than to fear gun violence while going about their day. We must do better.
I would implore anyone with information on this incident to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or via the P3 Tips App to remain anonymous.
