MADISON – This evening, Governor Tony Evers appeared before the Wisconsin State Legislature and unveiled his 2025-2027 state budget proposal. State Senator Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) released the following statement after the Governor’s address:

“Tonight, Governor Evers proposed a budget that will help our kids stay safe and get a quality education, keep taxes low for middle class families, and make meaningful steps to cut costs for all Wisconsinites.

“As we head into this budget process, our state has a multi-billion dollar surplus, and tonight the Governor shared his vision for how we can put that surplus to work for our state. The Governor’s budget balances historic new investments in childcare, public education, and the UW System with nearly $2 billion in tax relief that will help Wisconsinites make ends meet. It makes new investments in healthcare across our state while working to make our drinking water safer and cleaning up our environment. I am excited to engage with constituents across the 15th Senate District and share the Governor’s budget proposal.

“I am very pleased that the Governor’s proposal includes investments in our agricultural economy through the Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easements (PACE) program, the Farmland Preservation program, expanded county conservation staffing, and a Value-Added Agricultural Grant program. It also includes investments in local governments through increased funding for local road projects, $125 million for local capital projects, and better tools to promote housing development. Last year, I shared my thoughts with Governor Evers on these critical issues for the 15th Senate District, and I am glad that the Governor has included them in his budget proposal.

“I applaud Governor Evers’s budget proposal and I look forward to engaging with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to deliver a budget that lowers costs, supports seniors, and uplifts kids.”
