Senator Habush Sinykin Supports Fair Maps

MADISON, WI – Today, the Wisconsin State Senate convened in a Special Session, called by Governor Tony Evers to ban partisan gerrymandering and guarantee fair maps for future generations of Wisconsinites. Following their pattern of inaction on Special Sessions called by Governor Evers, Republican Leadership took no action, allowing no discussion or debate on this important issue. Senator Habush Sinykin was present in the Senate Chamber ready to discuss the need for and support fair maps for the state of Wisconsin.

Senator Habush Sinykin released the following statement:

“I applaud Governor Evers for calling this Special Session to ban partisan gerrymandering. Fair maps are essential for democracy–voters should choose their elected officials, not the other way around. Wisconsin has seen the consequences of gerrymandered maps–an unresponsive and unaccountable majority party that valued preserving power over supporting the people. Fair maps hold elected officials accountable to the will of the people, from funding child care to regulating data centers to reauthorizing the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship fund.

“Wisconsinites must have fair representation and a government they can hold accountable. This starts with fair maps.”
