Senator Baldwin Votes to Avert a Government Shutdown

By - Dec 21st, 2024 08:55 am

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released the following statement after voting to avoid a government shutdown:

“While a government shutdown may not be bad for the billionaires like the ones who were rooting for it, a shutdown would have been disastrous for Wisconsin families, the economy, and our troops. Shutting down the government would have left men and women in uniform working without pay, farmers without critical support, and children without the nutrition programs they rely on. Early this morning, I voted to keep our government open, support our farmers and rural communities, and narrowly avoid disaster for millions ahead of the holidays – but this was far from perfect. These short-term, kick-the-can-down-the-road bills are no way to govern and we have to pass a real Farm Bill and responsible annual funding bills that meet the needs of families, farmers, and businesses. Time to get to work.”
