Senator Agard Visits White House for Communities in Action: Building a Better Wisconsin Series

MADISON – Yesterday, Senator Agard attended the Communities in Action: Building a Better Wisconsin at the White House. The event highlighted the Biden-Harris Administration’s investments and impacts in Wisconsin and also featured local leaders and elected officials who are working on behalf of their communities to create opportunities and improve people’s everyday lives. Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement about this event:

“Democrats at all levels of government are working for Wisconsin. Under President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, $2.9 billion in federal funding has already been announced for infrastructure projects across Wisconsin, including $2.1 billion for better transportation – roads, bridges, and roadway safety. The federal law also provides 300,000 households access to more affordable high-speed internet, as well as $150 million in investments for clean water. Even better news? This is just a fraction of the funding Wisconsin is expected to receive from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law built upon the successful American Rescue Plan Act, which brought 7.9 billion of federal dollars to Wisconsin to support our small businesses, K-12 schools, higher education, rental assistance program, child care industry, and state and local governments. Notably, the American Rescue Plan Act helped more than 7,000 Wisconsin child care providers stay open throughout the pandemic, impacting more than 288,000 children. Our child care providers are the backbone of Wisconsin’s economy, and we must follow the lead of President Biden and support this vital industry moving forward.

“It was an honor to be included in this event and hear from local leaders throughout the nation of the real and tangible relief they experienced because of these historic pieces of legislation. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the American Rescue Plan Act demonstrates all the good that can be accomplished when the needs of the ordinary people are put at the forefront of policy making decisions.”
