Senator Agard Statement – GOP’s Egregious Attacks on Trans Kids Continue
MADISON – Today, the State Senate and State Assembly will be taking action on a number of anti-trans pieces of legislation. The Senate Committee on Health will be holding a public hearing, while the full Assembly will be voting on the bills. Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:
“Despite an outpouring of support from people throughout Wisconsin for the LGBTQ+ community during an Assembly public hearing last week, legislative Republicans in both the State Senate and the State Assembly are fast-tracking several egregious proposals that demonize trans individuals to score cheap political points with their extreme base. The anti-trans bills are not representative of the values of the majority of Wisconsinites, and thankfully Governor Evers has vowed to veto the proposals once they reach his desk.“To my GOP colleagues, please stop these harmful attacks and efforts to isolate the LGBTQ+ community – these are our friends, our neighbors, and our family. Everyone in our state deserves to be happy, safe, pursue their dreams, and know that they are beloved.”
