Sen. Roys: “Anti-abortion Politicians Make Our Loved Ones Less Safe, Less Free, and Less Prosperous”

MADISON – After Donald Trump and Republican politicians passed their harmful budget bill, Planned Parenthood announced yesterday that it will temporarily pause abortion care in Wisconsin to prevent loss of Badgercare coverage for family planning and other health services. Sen. Roys sounded the alarm about the backdoor abortion ban in the Big Ugly Bill, which targeted Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health providers, to restrict Americans’ reproductive freedom.

Yesterday’s announcement came on the heels of Wisconsin Republicans introducing a bill trying to claim that abortions are never necessary to save lives, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. initiating a bad faith “review” of the safety of mifepristone (abortion medication):

“We do not live in a free society if politicians are forcing people to remain pregnant or give birth against their will. Having a child is one of the most personal, private decisions a person can make, and politicians have no business making those decisions for people, ever.

“Republican politicians, including Tom Tiffany and every Wisconsin Republican in Congress, championed the legislation that resulted in Planned Parenthood pausing abortion services. The actions of these anti-abortion politicians make our loved ones less safe, less free, and less prosperous as they eliminate the freedom to choose whether and when to have a family in Wisconsin. Abortion rights are overwhelmingly popular in Wisconsin and nationwide.

No one’s freedom or health care access should be limited by where they live, or the whims of a judge, politician, or corporation. Together, I and my Democratic colleagues will continue to work alongside Wisconsinites to ensure everyone has the freedom to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions.”
