Sen Pfaff Denounces Republican Vote to Remove Child Care Funding from Wisconsin State Budget

By - May 8th, 2025 03:43 pm

Madison, WI – Today, the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee voted to remove nearly $500 million, intended to support Wisconsin’s child care network, from the Wisconsin state budget. Republicans not only removed this critical provision from the budget, but they will not allow any discussion of this item in further budget negotiations by the finance committee. Senator Brad Pfaff (D – Onalaska) released the following statement:

“One of the simplest things we can do to support working families and build a strong economy is ensure that parents have access to quality, affordable child care.

“From Washington, DC to right here in Wisconsin, Republicans have turned their backs on hardworking Wisconsinites. Failure to fund the Child Care Counts program will harm child care facilities and workers, increase costs for families, and make it more difficult for moms and dads to remain in the workforce. This is short-sighted and will have long-lasting impacts.”
