School Choice Champions Victorious in Wisconsin Elections

After one of the most unprecedented election cycles Wisconsin has ever seen, the American Federation for Children would like to congratulate State Representative David Crowley on his historic win for Milwaukee County Executive. Crowley faced off against State Senator Chris Larson, one of the Legislature’s staunchest opponents of school choice.

Statement from Justin Moralez, Wisconsin State Director for the American Federation for Children:

“Tens of thousands of families in Milwaukee County now have access to the Parental Choice Program and exercise their right to choose a learning environment that best suits the needs of their child. Future elections will be decided by those who school choice opponents hope to marginalize. In an election as close as this County Executive race, we hope that Senator Larson’s loss serves as a stark lesson to those who wish to deny families equal educational opportunities – especially to those like Senator Larson who had the luxury of attending private schools themselves.

“The American Federation for Children would also like to congratulate JoCasta Zamarripa on her win in Milwaukee’s 8th District Alderperson seat and school choice champion Jason Fields for a hard-fought extremely narrow loss in the race for City Comptroller despite extraordinary voter limitations on Milwaukee’s northside where early voting was shut down three weeks before the election.”
