Roys Reaffirms Longtime Support for Child Victims Act

“As governor, I will do all I can to prevent sexual assault and support survivors”

Madison, WI – Today, the Wisconsin Women’s March and the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP) called on all candidates for office to offer public support for the Child Victims Act. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kelda Roys released the following statement in response:

“I affirm my longtime enthusiastic support for the Child Victims Act, and I applaud the Wisconsin Women’s March and SNAP for advocating on behalf of such important legislation. I was proud to co-sponsor the Child Victims Act as a State Representative. All victims deserve their day in court, especially survivors of child sexual assault. The Child Victims Act is necessary to address the persistent, systemic abuse of children, including the hundreds who were victimized by priests of the Milwaukee Archdiocese in previous decades.”

“I have never wavered on my support for survivors of sexual violence. This bill should have passed a decade ago, and as governor, I will use the power of my office to support survivors and prevent sexual violence. For too long, those powerful interests who oversaw the systemic sexual abuse of children have escaped accountability. But justice delayed can still be achieved, if we elect leaders who advocate for survivors, not perpetrators.”

“My track record is clear – I have been a champion for all survivors of sexual violence, no matter what. As executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, I helped lead the successful effort to pass the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Act. As governor, I will do all I can to prevent sexual assault and to support survivors — especially children.”
