Rotaract Club of Milwaukee Supports Local Food Pantries
Food pantries across Milwaukee are under mounting pressure as rising food prices, reductions in government funding, and recent disruptions to FoodShare benefits force more families to seek food assistance. The Rotaract Club of Milwaukee recently joined other organizations in supporting Interchange Food Pantry’s (IFP) 2025 Thanksgiving Giveaway, providing volunteer help and funds to ensure all families had the chance to celebrate the holiday.
IFP serves a community in which 18.3% of residents and more than 25% of children live in food-insecure households in Milwaukee, according to the City of Milwaukee’s FEED-MKE Project. Beyond holiday meals, IFP is committed to providing fresh fruits and vegetables year-round—essential, nutritious items that must be purchased directly by the pantry due to their perishability. Rising food costs and rollbacks in other funding sources have intensified the strain on IFP as it continues its work to maintain this level of service for families across the city.
“Food insecurity continues to grow in Milwaukee, and these pressures make community partnerships more important than ever,” said Mark Ruedinger, Club Foundation Chair of the Rotaract Club of Milwaukee. “Our members were glad to contribute alongside other organizations to strengthen IFP’s efforts and help ensure families have access to both holiday meals and healthy, fresh food.”
IFP Executive Director George Neureuther told Rotaract that volunteer and financial contributions from groups like them “directly help us continue offering both Thanksgiving essentials and the fresh produce our guests rely on regularly.”
Young professionals in their 20s and 30s interested in service, leadership, and community are invited to attend the Rotaract Club of Milwaukee’s next meeting on December 10 at 5:30 p.m. Rotaract is part of a global network of young leaders connected with Rotary International, united in advancing community service and positive change. Our local club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by emailing rotaractmke@gmail.com.
