Rick Banks withdraws campaign for 11th Assembly District

By - May 31st, 2024 11:59 am

This morning Rick Banks formally withdrew his candidacy for the Wisconsin State Assembly to represent the 11th District, citing changing conditions in his family life.

“Since the launch of the campaign, circumstances in my family and personal life have changed to the point that I no longer believe that now is the time to pursue public office. It is not a decision that I have made lightly, but I believe it to be in the best interest of myself, my family and the community I serve,” Rick said in an email.

In his withdrawal, Rick endorsed Milwaukee County Supervisor Sequanna Taylor for the position.

“Fortunately, there’s a candidate in the race who lives in the district, has served the area in multiple capacities, and is a strong progressive who will uphold many of the same values that I would have in my campaign. That candidate is County Supervisor Sequonna Taylor. I’ve known and worked with her many times over the years and I know that she’ll represent the district well!”

He added, “Her election will also ensure that there is equitable representation of Black women in the State Assembly.’’

A primary election for the seat will be held on August 13, 2024 and the general election will be held on November 5, 2024.
