The grand opening of the farmers market sponsored by the Garden District Neighborhood Association will take place on Saturday, July 7 at S. 6th and W. Norwich (near Howard Ave.). Alderman Terry L. Witkowski will be joined by state Sen. Chris Larson, County Supervisor Jason Haas, and Bryan Simon of the Energy Exchange during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the market at 1 p.m.

In addition to fresh produce from local farmers, various flowers and plants, the festivities Saturday will also include juggling acts, chair massages, door prizes and other fun activities. The farmers market will be open every Saturday until October 20 (except for July 28, when it will be located at S. 5th and W. Layton), and will have a wide array of offerings, including fresh produce, plants, flowers, and other goods.

Located on the Green Corridor, the market features – in the event that we see rain – bricks donated by CalStar Products of Caledonia and interlocking slabs of permeable concrete pavement donated by Spancrete of Waukesha. Both allow rain water to flow through and enter the soil – keeping the water out of storm sewers.
