Republicans Scramble to Save Steil
MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed that a Donald Trump-affiliated super PAC is dumping money into Bryan Steil’s re-election campaign—out-pacing their spending in races once thought to be far more competitive. This spending was announced following the addition of Steil’s Democratic opponent, Mitchell Berman, to the DCCC’s highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ list and his endorsement by the Blue Dog Coalition, allowing Berman to receive even more support to defeat Steil.
“Donald Trump’s and Republicans’ scramble to save what they long considered to be a ‘safe’ seat shows just how out-of-touch Bryan Steil is with his voters who have been pleading with him for over a year to bring costs down,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “Wisconsinites in the First Congressional District are fed up with Steil’s corruption-enabling and cost-raising agenda—and they won’t be bought by Donald Trump or special interests.”
The non-partisan race rater Inside Elections also shifted the district towards Democrats yesterday, indicating that despite Trump’s attempt to buy the First Congressional District, voters are ready and eager to reject Steil at the ballot box in November.
