Republicans Block Vote on Congresswoman Gwen Moore’s Amendment to Direct Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration to Monitor DOGE’s Activity and Report to Congress
In this week’s Ways and Means Committee markup, Congresswoman Gwen Moore introduced an amendment to legislation being considered by the Committee to allow the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) to have unfettered access to monitor all of DOGE’s activities within the Treasury Department’s payment systems and report findings to Congress.
As reported this week by the Associated Press, the Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General is launching an audit of the security controls for the federal government’s payment system in response to concerns raised by Democratic lawmakers over actions taken by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency team.
“While I am glad the Inspector General will be looking into this matter, I am confused and dismayed why my Republican colleagues did not also want this transparency, which they demonstrated by blocking my amendment, which would have required this action,” said Congresswoman Moore. “Surely, they are hearing from their constituents too, even if they say otherwise. Americans are calling on their representatives in Congress to stand up for them and prevent irreparable harm. At a minimum, Americans need this accountability check.”
