Representative Snodgrass and Legislative Democrats introduce Safe & Sound Democracy Package

MADISON – Today, Legislative Democrats announced the Safe & Sound Democracy package – highlighting their commitment to voter access and education, ensuring that the people’s voice is heard, and making it easier for all eligible voters to participate in the democratic process.  The elections and campaign related bills fall under three categories: Voter Access and Education, Power to the People, and Campaign Integrity. In total 25 elections and campaign related bills will be circulated for co-sponsorship in the next 10 days.

Representative Snodgrass released the following statement:

Elections are the central institution of representative governments and voting is the language of democracy. Democrats believe that all eligible voters should find voting easy, accessible, and have confidence that their votes are safe and secure.

In recent years, the contrast between Republican legislators and Democratic legislators could not be starker. Republicans have sought to undermine confidence in Wisconsin elections and make voting less convenient and more intimidating. Members of their party have attempted to overturn elections and promote conspiracy theories about stolen ballots and election fraud. Democrats have sought to promote democracy and voting, not undermine it. These democratic authored bills encourage voter participation, ensure that the will of the people is the law of the land, and increase transparency in campaign finance.

Wisconsin elections are safe and secure and voting is an act of patriotism. Every eligible voter should be encouraged to participate in the process and feel confident that their voice is counted.
