Rep. Taylor on Final Passage of 2025 Budget: “We Still Have Work Left to Do”
MILWAUKEE, Wis – Following the Wisconsin State Assembly’s final floor session on the 2025-2027 state budget, Representative Sequanna Taylor (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement:
“Today we passed a budget that, while it includes areas of progress, still leaves far too many behind. We cannot call it a victory when our seniors are still lacking the full support and resources they need to age with dignity. They’ve poured into our communities for decades so it’s time we show up for them.
“When it comes to corrections, we must move beyond reactionary policies and start investing in preventative and restorative strategies. That means addressing root causes like poverty, lack of opportunity, and trauma. If we’re serious about reducing recidivism, we need a system that doesn’t just punish, but prepares people to succeed once they return home.
“And let’s be clear – investing in public education isn’t just about the future, it’s about right now. We cannot continue to say we care about our children’s future if we’re not willing to fully fund their present. If we want to create sustainable, thriving communities, we must give our schools, educators, and students what they need today.
“We may have reached the end of this floor session, but our work is far from done. Budgets are moral documents, and this one still reflects gaps we must urgently address. I remain committed to fighting for the people who need us most.”
