MADISON, Wis – Today, Governor Evers delivered his biennial budget address, highlighting Wisconsinites’’ priorities for the upcoming 2025-2027 budget. In response, Representative Sequanna Taylor (D-11) issued the following statement:
“The Governor’s budget includes significant investments in education, water quality, and child safety. He emphasized that 2025 would be the “Year of the Kid,” and proposed funding to address water contamination across the state. “An important part of doing what’s best for our kids is reducing exposure to dangerous chemicals and getting harmful contaminants out of our water,” the Governor said. “Every Wisconsinite should have access to clean and safe drinking water no matter where they live. Clean drinking water is vital for the health of our communities and the future of our children. I am grateful to the Governor for putting this issue at the forefront. Our kids deserve a safe environment to grow up in, and clean water is a basic need that must be guaranteed.
“Governor Evers also called for an investment of $80 million in literacy initiatives, including coaching and tutoring programs to improve reading skills statewide. “If our kids are fed, healthy, and feel safe, they will perform better in class,” he stated. I agree with the Governor’s call to return to the basics and make sure our children have the tools they need to succeed in school,” Investing in education and addressing the fundamental needs of our children will set them up for long-term success. This $80 million investment in literacy and educational supports will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Wisconsin’s students.
“Concluding his address, the Governor underscored the significance of making the largest-ever investment in Wisconsin’s youth, stating, “Doing the right thing for Wisconsin begins by doing what’s best for our kids. So, my pro-kid budget makes the largest investment in Wisconsin’s kids in any budget by any governor in state history.” This historic investment in our children is a critical step toward building a brighter future for Wisconsin. As a legislator, I’m committed to ensuring that our kids receive the resources and support they deserve to succeed. The Governor’s pro-kid budget reflects the priority we must place on our youth and their future.
