Rep. Cruz and Assembly Democrats Push Optimism with an Economic Justice Bill of Rights while Assembly Republicans Push Cruelty
MADISON – Today, Representative Angelina Cruz, along with Representatives Hong, Tenorio, Clancy, Cruz, Madison, Phelps, and Vining, along with community members and advocates, reintroduced an Economic Justice Bill of Rights. This resolution outlines economic rights that all Wisconsinites deserve, including but not limited to:
- A job that provides dignity at work and pays a living wage;
- Adequately funded public education and affordable, accessible child care;
- A union, public or private, and collective bargaining;
- Affordable, accessible, and comprehensive high-quality health care;
- A clean, sustainable environment and healthy planet;
- Decent, sustainable community infrastructures including safe, affordable housing, transportation, and broadband;
- Equitable access to capital, investments, financial institutions, and retirement;
- A fair, restorative, and equitable justice system;
- Recreation and participation in community and civic life; and
- Life, self-determination, and freedom from oppressions for all Wisconsinites regardless of documentation status
Later in the day on the assembly floor, Republicans pushed through several bills designed to target Wisconsin’s transgender and nonbinary community.
Following the end of the floor session, Rep. Cruz released the following statement:
“The difference in priorities could not be more clear. Whether it is fully funded schools, access to jobs that pay a living wage, collective bargaining rights, or affordable housing, we need to focus on the values of Wisconsinites in order to build safer and stronger communities for everyone.”
