Rep. Barca Statement on Gov. Walker’s Blame Game

"Put simply, Gov. Walker needs to own up to his own extreme ideas."

MADISON – Today Assembly Democratic Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) issued the following statement on Gov. Walker’s continued blame game over the extreme UW System language revisions included in his budget proposal:

“When it comes to his own budget proposal, the buck stops with Governor Walker.

“Put simply, Gov. Walker needs to own up to his own extreme ideas. The fact is that in his budget, Gov. Walker tried to dismantle the century-old Wisconsin Idea – which is a cornerstone of our state – and create a narrow agenda that doesn’t include pursuing the truth.

“Walker’s blame game continues his history of poor leadership for the state. The governor and his Republican colleagues have created this budget deficit and Walker’s latest slash and burn university budget will only further harm the middle class and current and future Wisconsin students.

“The students, parents, employers and residents of this great state deserve to know Gov. Walker’s true intentions for his radical changes to the University of Wisconsin System.”

  1. Wisconsin democratic party says:

Pete needs to hire some consultants to regain a few seats in the Senate. Impotent Wisconsin Democrats do not have influence on any law or issue. They are pieces of furniture.

  2. David Ciepluch says:

Republicans are totally incompetent when it comes to governing and lead Wisconsin into a continuous downward spiral in all measurable indicators, and last place compared to other Midwest States. Doubling down on failure is not going to change the outcome. Walker is a proven liar more than 75% of the time according to Politifact. Republican ideas come directly from corporate leaders and their attorneys with written laws from ALEC.

  3. Marie says:

Gov. Walker may have picked the wrong targets this time. Few have contempt for higher education, especially the UW System. And trying to hack away at the 110-year Wisconsin Idea was just not a good idea, esp. for a college dropout. It’s already getting national coverage.

But he threw yet another staff under the bus, and probably hopes yet another blunder will fade away. He may no be as lucky this time, with his Big Idea to cut $300 million from UW, after his ill-conceived pre-election tax cuts last year.
