Poetry FEST in the Park on July 20
On the second Tuesday of each summer month, members of the public gather in Milwaukee’s Juneau Park.
Poetry in the Park’s largest crowds yet kicked off their 5th season with their first two monthly events in June and July. On the second Tuesday of each summer month, members of the public gather in Milwaukee’s Juneau Park at the corner of Prospect and Kilbourn Avenues to hear a variety of voices perform their poems. On August 13 at 6:30pm, Madison’s Poet Laureate and anthology editor of I Didn’t Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin, Oscar Mireles is joining us, along with special guests, Chelsea Tadeyeske, Alida Cardós Whaley, and Rachel Lapow. These four are sure to boom the neighboring buildings with their vibrating words!
And on September 10 at 6:30pm, we’ll wrap up our season by inviting an extra special performance from the Milwaukee Opera Theatre. Bring your blankets and beverages, and settle in for this rare outdoor treat!
But first— the inaugural Poetry FEST in the Park, a day-long celebration of the written and spoken word, is happening in Juneau Park on Saturday, July 20! Join us anytime between 11:00am and 4:00pm for guest poets reading every 15 minutes, a pop-up book shop from Woodland Pattern Book Center, as well as food and adult beverages available for purchase. From 1:00pm – 2:00pm, current Wisconsin Poet Laureate, Margaret Rozga will be holding a drop-in writing workshop titled “Opening Doors.” In addition, local artist Anja Notanja Sieger will be offering typewritten poems, letters, and words of advice. As always, bring blankets, chairs, pets, and pals to this one-of-a-kind Saturday shindig!
Poetry in the Park events are always free and open to the public. If our regular Tuesday events are rained out, performances are relocated to Bollywood Grill (1038 N. Jackson St.). Check Facebook for more information.
