Pfister® Narrator-in-Residence Nicole Mattke Launches Pfister Book Club Program
Nicole Mattke Invites the Public to Participate in the First-Ever Pfister Book Club July 13
Milwaukee, Wis., June 29, 2017 – The historic AAA Four-Diamond Pfister Hotel, owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, today unveiled The Pfister Book Club, a year-long book club program moderated by the hotel’s tenth Narrator-in-Residence, Nicole Mattke. The book club’s first meeting will be held on July 13 from 7 – 9 p.m. in the hotel’s mezzanine.
The Pfister Book Club’s first meeting will discuss the book, “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. The story, which takes place in a hotel, follows an aristocrat who is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel in Moscow. The public is invited to participate in discussion about the literature, and for those who read the book, guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments and lights snacks. The Pfister Hotel’s executive pastry chef, Travis Martinez, will also create a specially-created themed dessert for each meeting. Complimentary parking for the event is also available.
“I’m thrilled to bring the first-ever Pfister Book Club to the hotel,” said Mattke. “The Book Club is a modern take on traditional book clubs and invites all readers to enjoy the hotel’s beauty while creating a literary community. Participants will also love the unique themed desserts Travis will create to accompany our meetings and discussions.”
The Pfister Book Club has three additional planned meetings, with others to be announced at a later date.
- August 10, 2017 to discuss “The Shark Club” by Ann Kidd Taylor
- September 14, 2017 to discuss “The Cottingley Secret” by Hazel Gaynor
- October 12, 2017 to discuss “Forest Dark” by Nicole Krauss
This event is free and open to the public. For more information about The Pfister Book Club, please visit the Pfister Hotel’s Facebook page.
About The Pfister Hotel
The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years. Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and offers an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.
Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 41 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. In 2017, The Pfister Hotel was ranked the No. 1 Best Milwaukee Hotel by U.S. News & World Report. This exceptional property is a member of two prestigious hotel organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. For more information, please visit www.thepfisterhotel.com and follow the hotel on Facebook and Twitter (@PfisterHotel).
