On the passing of Richard Trumka
Statement of Common Council President Cavalier Johnson August 6, 2021
I am saddened to learn of the passing of Richard L. Trumka, the longtime president of the A.F.L.-C.I.O. Mr. Trumka — a prominent union leader, and an influential voice in Democratic politics — died on Thursday at age 72.
Mr. Trumka was widely respected and will be remembered for his dedication to the labor movement’s efforts to create an economy based on shared prosperity and to hold employers accountable to working families. His work was strategic and transformative, and he had a major role in improving working conditions for millions of Americans.
My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
