Video Release of MPD Officer Involved Shooting
MILWAUKEE, WI— On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers on patrol in the area of North 39th Street and West Meinecke Avenue observed a car matching the description of a car wanted in the City of Glendale for a shots fired incident. The officers attempted to stop the car and a pursuit ensued. The car stopped in the 2500 block of North 37th Street and the suspects fled on foot. One of the suspects who fled was not apprehended. The other suspect was pursued by an officer to the 2400 block of North 37th Street.
During this foot pursuit, the officer gave the suspect several commands to get on the ground that the suspect disregarded. The suspect and the officer then exchanged gunfire.
The suspect, a 23-year-old male, died on scene from a gunshot injury despite lifesaving measures taken by MPD and the Milwaukee Fire Department. The suspect’s firearm was in his hand, and an additional firearm was recovered in his waistband. Another firearm was recovered from the car.
The officer that discharged his firearm is a 35-year-old male with over 3 years of service. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a non-fatal injury and released. The officer was placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shootings.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating this incident. The Wauwatosa Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
Video related to this incident will be released in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure 575.The Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 575, establishes criteria for when video evidence that captures officer-involved incidents that result in death or great bodily harm will be released to the public. This policy is intended to balance important interests, including the public’s interest in transparency and police accountability, the necessity of preserving the integrity of criminal and administrative investigations, and the privacy interests of individuals depicted in such videos (including victims, witnesses, bystanders, and the individuals against whom force is used). This policy creates a presumption of release. It is our goal to release video in officer involved incidents according to SOP 575 within 15 days of the incident.
