Nō Studios to Host Reception Following Netflix’s “SHIRLEY” Milwaukee Premiere on March 14th
The film, written and directed by Milwaukee native John Ridley, will premiere at the Oriental Theatre on March 14th followed by a reception held at Nō Studios.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 27, 2024) – Neflix’s SHIRLEY tells the story of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black congresswoman and her run for the1972 Democratic presidential nomination. The film will premiere at the Oriental Theatre on March 14th, followed by a reception at 8 P.M. held at Nō Studios. SHIRLEY was written and directed by Oscar-winner John Ridley, known for 12 Years a Slave. Ridley was born and raised in Milwaukee and continues to be involved in the Milwaukee community. He is the founder of Nō Studios, a collaborative workspace and social community for Milwaukee artists and activists to come together and socialize with purpose. John will host the reception at Nō Studios following the screening. He will discuss the filming of SHIRLEY as well as upcoming Nō Studios initiatives planned for 2024.
SHIRLEY stars Regina King as Shirley Chisholm alongside an impressive cast including Lance Reddick, Lucas Hedges, Terrence Howard, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Christina Jackson, Michael Cherrie, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amirah Vann, W. Earl Brown, Brad James, Reina King and André Holland. The biopic will chronicle pinnacle moments in Chisholm’s life, her run for the nomination and the impact she made as a political trailblazer. King produced the film with her sister Reina King and the duo have spent the last 15 years developing the film. Netflix will release the film to stream on March 22nd.
