No confidence in leadership of MPS Athletics
Joint statement from Milwaukee Common Council Members: Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr., Alderman DiAndre Jackson, Alderman Robert J. Bauman, and Alderwoman Sharlen P. Moore
Bay View and Pulaski High Schools (both part of the Milwaukee City Conference) have received letters from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) that detailed both football programs will forfeit ALL 2024 games and have a two-year playoff ban imposed upon them over executing a conference switch without filing the proper paperwork.
Bay View High School Athletic Director Jay Wojcinski said this was in response to a clerical error by Bobbie Kelsey, MPS Commissioner of Interscholastic Athletics & Academics (Milwaukee City Conference).
Additionally, a large fight that occurred between players and coaches during a recent Rufus King – Bradley Tech football game has resulted in ‘postponed’ suspensions for involved players and coaches that will somehow be administered after the season. This fight was out-of-control and ugly, and we believe these suspensions should be meted out DURING conference and playoff action when they will actually be felt by those involved, and not after the season.
This ‘postponed’ suspensions decision was also made by Bobbie Kelsey.
Additionally, such a melee is also not reflective of our student athletes nor does it reflect the culture and spirit of the Milwaukee City Conference.
We have also been told about coaches and administrators who have stopped their involvement in MPS athletics because of the dysfunction in how Ms. Kelsey handles her duties. It is difficult enough getting good coaches and administrative stakeholders to step forward to help our student athletes, but having them repelled to the point of walking away is simply unacceptable.
