New raised crosswalk brings additional safety near Humboldt Park, Parkside School
Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic was joined today (Monday, October 30) by Mayor Cavalier Johnson and representatives from the Department of Public Works and Milwaukee Public Schools to unveil the new raised crosswalk recently installed on Howell Ave. near Humboldt Park and Milwaukee Parkside School for the Arts. The installation, part of the Safe Routes to School program, seeks to ensure those accessing both the school and park have a safer option to cross a busy thoroughfare, and encourage both students and families to walk and bike more in the area.
“Ever since I was elected Alderwoman I have heard from residents about the need for additional safety measures near Humboldt Park. Between last year’s enhancements on Oklahoma Ave., and today’s unveiling on Howell Ave., we have implemented measures to make sure everyone has access to safer streets,” said Alderwoman Dimitrijevic. “The impact this new infrastructure will have on Parkside School is also crucial. Youth should be able to walk or bike to school safely, and this will assist in creating a safer pick-up and drop-off in front of the school as well. I look forward to the impact this project, and others to be installed near schools throughout Milwaukee, will have on making our shared roadways safer and more accessible for all users.
