Milwaukee Police Pursuit Ends in Suspect’s Death After Gunfire Exchange

MILWAUKEE, WI— Earlier today, on Monday, April 13, 2026, a homicide occurred at 7th and Mitchell. Officers were seeking a vehicle tied to that homicide. Later on this afternoon, this same vehicle was involved in a shots fired incident that occurred near the 1700 Block of North 35th. Shortly thereafter, at approximately 4:47 p.m., officers observed this vehicle and attempted to make a stop. The suspect fled and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The vehicle pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed on S. 35th Street near West National Avenue. The suspect exited his vehicle and fired shots towards officers at which time several officers returned fire subsequently striking the suspect. The suspect’s firearms were recovered. No one else was struck by the gunfire.

The suspect and sole occupant of the suspect vehicle, a 31-year-old male, was transported to a hospital and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

A 34-year-old that was in the crash was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.

The officers that discharged their firearms are a 35-year-old male with over 8 years of service, 33-year-old male with over 14 years of service, 33-year-old male with over 9 years of service, 33-year-old male with over 8 years of service, 30-year-old male with over 11 years of service, 30-year-old male with over 7 years of service, 29-year-old male with over 3 years of service and a 26-year-old male with over 7 months of service. They will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shootings.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The Wauwatosa Police Department is the lead investigating agency.

This is a fluid and ongoing investigation.
