Milwaukee Day Celebrates Everything Positive About the City This 4/14
Events to include Turner Hall, City Hall, and community cleanups
Milwaukee
April 7, 2015 – Milwaukee Day, a city-wide celebration of everything that makes Milwaukee great ramps up its fifth year of festivities next week with a full lineup of activities on the date which coincides with our area code, Tuesday, April 14 – 4/14.
Things get underway once again with community cleanups of area public spaces on Sunday, April 12. All members of the greater Milwaukee area are invited to participate, beginning at Mitchell Park (meet at the greenhouse adjacent to the Domes) and Washington Park (Urban Ecology Center, 1859 N 40th Street) from 10AM-noon. The cleanups continue at Victory Over Violence Park in Harambee (2601 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.) from noon-2PM, and Menomonee Valley (32nd & Canal) and Walker’s Point (Rumor Lounge, 161 W Pittsburgh Ave.) from 3-5PM.
Supplies will be provided, but volunteers may bring gloves, grabbers, and trash bags. All volunteers will receive a commemorative t-shirt. The weather is expected to be in the 60s, with clear skies. The cleanups are generously sponsored by Molina.
On Tuesday, all are invited to City Hall (200 E. Wells St.) for a happy hour to remember. A live DJ, food trucks, samples from Lakefront Brewery and Great Lakes Distillery, Bucks entertainment, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, 414 Photography’s Milwaukee-themed photobooth, a bell ringing in City Hall’s tower and proclamation by Mayor Tom Barrett, and much more will take place beginning at 5PM. This event is generously sponsored by Yelp Milwaukee, DearMKE, the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Day.
Immediately following the City Hall fun, doors open at Turner Hall (1034 N. 4th St.) at 7:30PM for live music by some of the city’s finest. Greatest Lakes open things up with their unique folk/indie-rock hybrid music that has garnered attention beyond the region. Experimental rapper Webster X, fresh off his wildly successful South By Southwest stint keeps the crowd moving. Then Hugh Bob & the Hustle – who sold out Turner Hall when last they performed there, close out the holiday with their north country sound that’s been to both ends of the highway and back home. Dear MKE’s acclaimed videos will be screened throughout the night, which is sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon, 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, WMSE 91.7FM, the Milwaukee Bucks, and Yelp Milwaukee.
