MILWAUKEE, WI – On Saturday, April 26th, County Supervisor Jack Eckblad and Alderman Scott Spiker rolled up their sleeves and proudly joined volunteers leading cleanup efforts across five county parks. The events were hosted by a group of dedicated neighborhood organizations: Milwaukee Riverkeepers, Humboldt Park Friends, Friends of Saveland Park, the Airport Gardens Neighborhood Association, Friends of South Shore Park, and the newly re-formed Friends of Holler Park.

County District 4 and Aldermanic District 13 have a proud tradition of volunteerism and grassroots activism. Neighbors come together to form neighborhood associations, park friends groups, plan beloved events like Bay View Bash and Chill on the Hill, and organize community staples such as the South Shore Farmers Market.

During Saturday’s cleanup, volunteers collected bags of trash, cleared brush, trimmed bushes, and helped prepare these public spaces for a safe and vibrant spring & summer season—demonstrating the powerful impact of community action.

Supervisor Eckblad reflected, “When we come together to work alongside one another, neighbor next to neighbor, intergenerationally, we form incredible bonds. These bonds last a lifetime, and are an example to the next generations. That example has never been more powerful or more needed.”

Alderman Scott Spiker said, “I want to personally thank each and every resident who joined Supervisor Eckblad and me in keeping our cherished parks clean and well cared for. It’s the work of volunteers who embody this sort of community spirit that make our districts such wonderful places to live.”

Courtney Kenealy, President of the newly re-formed Friends of Holler Park emphasized the group’s vision for community connection and stewardship, “Friends of Holler Park is here to build a more vibrant and connected community, rooted in the beauty of our park. From park cleanups to community events, we’re all part of the park’s story and we would love to see you at our next adventure!

Milwaukee County Supervisory District 4 is the beating heart of Greater Milwaukee. Its borders encompass Mitchell Airport and the Port of Milwaukee. Its County Parks like Humboldt and South Shore anchor historic neighborhoods such as Bay View, Saveland, Tippecanoe, and The Garden District.
