Milwaukee County Executive Abele goes ‘On the Issues’ at Marquette Law School
Abele says his focus is not on conflict but cooperation to address the county’s biggest problems, including persistent racial disparities.

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele will be the featured guest in an upcoming “On the Issues with Mike Gousha,” Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at Marquette University Law School’s Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.
Abele is a Democrat who has backed progressive causes and candidates, but who also says he’s proud to reach beyond party labels and across the aisle to improve the lives of county residents. First elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2016, Abele has already faced a number of major challenges during his tenure. He’s had to address the county’s once-dire fiscal situation, along with transit, parks and economic development issues.
Some of Abele’s positions, including his support for a downsized county board and a new “turnaround school district,” have earned him critics, and he has clashed repeatedly with Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke. Abele says his focus is not on conflict but cooperation to address the county’s biggest problems, including persistent racial disparities.
Gousha, an award-winning broadcast journalist, is the Law School’s distinguished fellow in law and public policy. His “On the Issues” series of conversations with newsmakers supports Marquette Law School’s commitment to serve as a modern-day public square for the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and beyond.
Through public programming such as the Marquette Law School Poll, debates featuring candidates in significant political races, Gousha’s “On the Issues” conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars and conferences on significant issues of public importance, the Law School serves as the region’s leading venue for serious civil discourse about law and public policy matters.
