Milwaukee Choristers Celebrate Centuries of Choral Expression with Concerts April 10 and April 12

By - Mar 8th, 2026 12:28 pm

The Milwaukee Choristers present their spring concert “Raising Our Songs – Lifting Our Voices” Friday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 12, at 3 p.m., at St. Monica Parish in Whitefish Bay. From soaring anthems to intimate moments, the concert takes a journey through centuries of choral expression.

Familiar masters such as George Frideric Handel, Francis Poulenc and George Gershwin are joined by the distinctive voices of R. Nathaniel Dett, Stephen Paulus, Ysaye M. Barnwell and more. Blending sacred and secular, classical and contemporary, the program offers beauty, depth and joy.

Dr. James B. Kinchen, Jr. leads the performance. Professor of music and director of choral activities at University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Dr. Kinchen has directed the Milwaukee Choristers since 1993.

Made up of more than 75 musicians from across Southeastern Wisconsin, the chorus began in November 1933 when nearly 20 graduates of Milwaukee’s Riverside High School A Cappella Choir decided to continue singing under the direction of their high school conductor. The Choristers perform Christmas and spring concerts in December and April each year.

Concerts are supported in part by a Wisconsin Arts Board grant with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts and a Milwaukee County CAMPAC Arts Fund grant.
