Milwaukee Ballet’s Second Company Premieres New Works in MOMENTUM at South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center
International pre-professional company to present four world premieres Jan. 28
MILWAUKEE – January 9, 2017 – Milwaukee Ballet II (MBII), the second company of Milwaukee Ballet, takes center stage in a program featuring four world premieres in MOMENTUM, January 28, 2017 at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center (SMPAC). There will be performances at 2 and 6:30pm.
MOMENTUM features the international dancers of MBII showcasing their technique, artistry, and athleticism in a program of classical and contemporary work from a diverse collection of choreographers, including Thom Dancy (MBII graduate), Garrett Glassman (Milwaukee Ballet company dancer), Tania Bolivia Vergara (guest artist from Cuba), and Rolando Yanes (Director of Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy and MBII).
Dancers of the Milwaukee Ballet II Program come from around the world to train alongside the professional dancers in the company, and perform in the ensemble of mainstage productions such as The Nutcracker and Mirror Mirror. MOMENTUM shines a spotlight on these rising artists as they are featured in new repertoire created to showcase their talent.
“Buying a ticket to this show is an investment in the future of dance. In addition to being entertained, you’ll be inspired by the talent and ambition of these young artists,” said MBII Director Rolando Yanes. “MOMENTUM is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of styles in one program.”
MOMENTUM will include live music courtesy of Milwaukee Ballet pianist Daniel Boudewyns, who will perform on stage with the dancers. Both shows will be followed by a talkback with the artists.

About Milwaukee Ballet II (MBII)
The Milwaukee Ballet II Program was established in 1978 to nurture and develop gifted young dancers, bridging the gap between student and professional. The dancers build their technical skills and artistry by dancing alongside the professionals of Milwaukee Ballet Company in main stage productions. These dancers are also featured in their own performances in Wisconsin venues and studio showcases. Milwaukee Ballet II trainees are a vital part of the award-winning Department of Community Engagement. Graduates of the program are among the ranks of professional companies worldwide.
