Milwaukee: A City on the Move

Statement from Common Council President José G. Pérez July 22, 2025

By - Jul 22nd, 2025 04:10 pm

The recent report by ADP Research identifying Milwaukee as the second-best place in the country for young people looking for work is encouraging news in a Summer that has seemed buried in bad headlines.

Placing Milwaukee second to only Raleigh, North Carolina, the report ranked the surveyed communities by annual wages, hiring rates, and affordability.

The Common Council can be justly proud of its initiatives both to encourage business development and support the training of young people to ensure that they’re ready to participate in the modern workforce.

The recently-adopted accessory dwelling unit ordinance, which I was pleased to sponsor, is a small step toward bringing new types of decent, affordable housing to the marketplace.

More broadly, the Common Council has led the conversation on the bureaucratic barriers developers are experiencing as they try to bring workforce housing to market and what can be done to eliminate them.

Milwaukee is a great City with a rich history. Young people choosing to make it their home will ensure it has a bright future as well.
