Milwaukee, WI – Midwest BikeShare, Inc. is proud to announce the installation of Milwaukee’s first, fully operational B-cycle bike share kiosk at Discovery World. A press conference, attended by Mayor Barrett, alderman and other supporters, will be held, on the site, on Monday, July 8th at 10 a.m.

This kiosk, funded with the support of the City of Milwaukee, local businesses, institutions and foundations, is the first of 24 kiosks that are scheduled to be installed throughout the City of Milwaukee. Midwest BikeShare has recently engaged Kevin Hardman, the former Executive Director of the Wisconsin Bike Fed, to launch the full system by March 2014.

“This is an exciting day for Milwaukee,” states Bruce Keyes, President of the Midwest BikeShare Board of Directors. “Bike-share systems have been installed in over 20 major cities around the country. We are proud that Milwaukee is taking an important step to become healthier, more vibrant and more attractive to the next generation of leaders.”

Discovery World provides a very visible and accessible location for residents and visitors alike. Patrons can check out bicycles from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. for $8 an hour and $5 for each additional 1/2 hour. Use of a B-cycle requires a valid credit card. Once the full system launches, patrons will be able to join as members and check out bikes on an unlimited basis at no additional cost (with certain time restrictions).

Midwest BikeShare Inc. will also use this kiosk to demonstrate the function of a bike-sharing system to its growing list of Milwaukee-area supporters. “Seeing and riding is believing,” adds Barry Mainwood, Vice President of the board. “Once people use these bicycles they will understand their great potential for Greater Milwaukee.”
