MATC Gap Year Graduates to Share Future Plans at Final Exhibition
High School Graduates Encouraged to Apply for Next Class of Career Exploration Program
Milwaukee. March 22, 2023 — After 10 weeks of intensive career exploration, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Gap Year program graduates will share their future career plans during a final exhibition on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MATC Downtown Milwaukee Campus, Main Building, Room M605, 1015 N. Sixth Street.
Over the course of 10 weeks, the students experienced hands-on learning in career pathways including STEM, business management, creative arts, healthcare, community and human services, manufacturing, and more. These MATC-led learning experiences were paired with community showcases, and featured speakers, with field trips to Milwaukee businesses and cultural assets.
After the final exhibition, students will stay connected with MATC through special events and access to career readiness services.
“We congratulate these graduates who have completed this gap-year experience and have been provided with a comprehensive understanding of the career and educational options available to them,” said MATC President Dr. Vicki J. Martin. “Our partnership with NEWaukee provides individuals an in-depth opportunity to explore careers, learn more about themselves and have unique experiences throughout the city.”
High school graduates are encouraged to apply now for the next class of the MATC Gap Year program, which begins on September 7, 2023.
To be eligible, applicants must live in the MATC district, have graduated in 2022 or 2023 with a high school diploma and have a demonstrated financial need as determined by household income not exceeding $75,000. There is no cost to apply or participate.
