MARN Art + Culture Hub Cafe reopens with food, full bar
The MARN Art + Culture Hub, which includes an art gallery, event space, and local handmade arts marketplace, is reopening its cafe on 414 Day, Friday, April 14
This Friday, April 14, the MARN Art + Culture Hub’s reopens to the public full-time as a space for artists and arts appreciators to mingle amongst contemporary Milwaukee-based art.
The cafe will begin offering a rotating seasonal food menu curated by Trouble Makers Cocina, a new vision of Mexican cuisine through the lens of Arnie Gonzales and Martin Magaña, as well coffee by Esperanza Coffee Collective, and a new selection of perfectly paired wine, cocktails and beer including as New Barons beer on tap.
The MARN Art + Culture Hub, located at 191 N. Broadway in The Historic Third Ward, is the organizational home of the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network, or MARN, a 21-year-old arts organization whose mission is to support local artists by providing key business development programming, and paid opportunities through the MARN Art + Culture Hub.
Mal Montoya, the President and CEO of MARN, said that the cafe’s reopening is an exciting moment for those who are looking to appreciate local art in a comfortable, down-to-earth environment that is accessible to both artists and arts appreciators alike.
“With the reopening of our café, we’ve literally doubled the size of our staff, most of which are local artists and I couldn’t be happier with the transformation of the HUB. We’ve leveled up every aspect of the facility to the benefit our community.”
“Practice in Progress” contains works from members of the current cohort of the MARNmentorship program. Since 2007, the MARNmentorship program has helped local artists break out of their silos by receiving valuable opportunities for mentorship, artistic critique, and community-building from their peers in the southeastern Wisconsin area.
The exhibition explores the messy side of potential: where an idea is expanded and developed over time through learning, experimentation, and taking calculated risks. Works in this exhibition reflect the transitional state between an idea being hatched and it becoming a lifelong practice.
Current MARNmentorship participants such as Katie Avila Loughmiller, Bryon Cherry and John Kowalczyk will have works featured in “Practice in Progress.” The exhibition will be at the MARN Art + Culture Hub through June 4, 2023.
