Mahlon Mitchell Posts Strongest Fundraising of All Democrats in Race to Replace Scott Walker
Campaign finance reports filed yesterday reveal Mitchell’s campaign raised $526,000 from January 1 through June 30 of this year .
MADISON – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mahlon Mitchell’s campaign to unseat Scott Walker raised the most money of all candidates in the crowded Democratic primary, raising $840,000 since joining the race in November. With just four weeks to the August 14 primary, all other candidates fell short despite last minute personal loans to their campaigns.
“The classic campaign strategy is to self-fund, and spend big on TV at the end. All of recent history and research shows that when it comes to democratic voters – especially communities of color – that is a failed strategy. Mahlon has raised the most money of any candidate in this race and is using those funds to build a campaign that will win in August and November,” communications director Kirsten Allen said. “While other candidates work out of their Madison homes, we have two field offices, including one on the north side of Milwaukee, and half of our staff is dedicated to community organizing. We are knocking doors, making phone calls, and recruiting volunteers every day. Mahlon is meeting voters where they are. We could not be more proud of the organization Mahlon has built and despite Walker and his allies already spending millions on TV, Mahlon is just 4 points down.”
Mitchell just completed at 10 day, 20 city statewide tour where he met with voters and released his ‘Together We Rise’ policy platform. Campaign finance reports filed yesterday reveal Mitchell’s campaign raised $526,000 from January 1 through June 30 of this year and reports having $375,000 cash on hand. Mitchell has not loaned his campaign any money and employs nine people.
