MacIver Calls for Immediate Action to Strengthen Election Integrity in Response to President Trump’s Address
MADISON — Following President Trump’s speech last night, the MacIver Institute urges Wisconsin officials and lawmakers to treat the concerns raised as a serious call to review and strengthen every aspect of the state’s election processes.
“Safe, secure, and transparent elections are the bedrock of our constitutional republic,” said Annette Olson, CEO of the MacIver Institute. “The news President Trump shared about attempts by foreign governments to meddle in our elections needs to be a wake up call to the American people to pause, thoroughly review election processes at every level, and make necessary corrections. MacIver has long worked to protect citizens’ votes by ensuring the system deserves voter confidence. We have called out problems where they exist and educated citizens, legislators, and election officials so that Wisconsinites can have faith that their votes count.”
The MacIver Institute has been at the forefront of protecting election integrity in Wisconsin. This includes conducting an election integrity roundtable at the state convention with Rep. Bryan Steil, spearheading the campaign to pass the Only Citizens Vote amendment, and representing the state on the Election Integrity Network. These efforts reflect MacIver’s ongoing commitment to accuracy, transparency, and accountability so that only legal votes are counted and every Wisconsin voter can trust the outcome.
The Wisconsin Election Commission must work closely with election clerks to fully enforce Only Citizens Vote and Photo ID laws, with real accountability when violations occur. The legislature, election officials, and political parties must prioritize stronger oversight and cross-agency coordination — including with federal partners — to safeguard every legal ballot. Most urgently, Congress should pass the SAVE America Act to deliver meaningful nationwide reforms.
