Lime Applauds as Milwaukee Moves Towards Permanent Shared E-scooter Program
Milwaukee, WI (March 19, 2023) — Lime released the below statement applauding the Milwaukee Common Council’s vote to create a permanent shared e-scooter program, paving the way for continued and improved access to safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation options for the city for years to come. Shared e-scooter ridership grew by leaps and bounds in Milwaukee in 2023, with Lime seeing almost 500,000 rides take place last year. Lime’s best year ever in ridership in 2023 marks year over year growth of over 665% as the program lasted more months of the year and Lime invested heavily in its service to Milwaukee. Lime is also proud to report that over 111,000 of these rides were part of its equity discount program, highlighting the company’s commitment to ensuring that all Milwaukee residents have access to sustainable transit options no matter where they live or how much they make.
Lime had its best year ever in Milwaukee in 2023, with riders taking nearly 500,000 rides, an increase of over 665% compared to 2022. Over 111,000 of those rides, or more than 20%, were part of Lime’s equity discount program. Lime attributes this success to the investments it has made in its services here in the Cream City, most notably on hardware with its Gen4.1 e-scooter and its newly launched Seated Scooter, both of which riders have embraced. Lime also credited the City of Milwaukee and the investments it has made in safe streets infrastructure and the continued support of its micromobility programs citywide.
Since Lime launched in Milwaukee in July 2019, nearly 250,000 unique riders have taken 1,100,000 trips on Lime vehicles with 465,000 rides taking place so far in 2023 already. Riders have traveled 1.5 million miles, replacing 253,000 car trips, saving up to 612 metric tons of carbon emissions and over 13,000 gallons of gas.
