Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Requests Restraint In Regards To Syria

By - Dec 10th, 2024 10:03 am

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) calls on the outgoing Biden Administration as well as the incoming Trump Administration to accept a temporary policy of isolationism in the wake of the dissolution of the Al-Bashar regime in Syria.

Not only is it not our responsibility to be a nation builder throughout the world, adding even more of a presence or pressure in an already unstable region is highly irresponsible. With no fewer than four rebel factions vying for land and influence in the nation, the possibility of backing the wrong faction is quite high. Injecting ourselves in regional politics has already had a disastrous effect in the Middle East. Further meddling will only add unnecessary casualties amongst our military personnel.

The LPWI suggests that we withdraw all of our military forces either to the US or to the closest friendly nation and allow Syrians to decide what is best for them and their country. Once the situation stabilizes, we can then renew diplomatic relations with the nation(s) that form from the chaos from this past weekend. We can provide assistance and counsel if asked, but we should otherwise let the Syrian people to embrace their newfound freedom and liberty and decide for themselves what their future holds.
