Less Bumps, More Brewers: Team Helps City of Milwaukee Smooth the Road to American Family Field
In Partnership with DPW, Work to Begin this Spring
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee drivers may soon notice fewer jolts on their daily journeys – just in time for baseball season. In a move as strategic as a perfectly placed bunt, the Milwaukee Brewers are stepping up to help tackle one of the city’s peskiest opponents: potholes.
Potholes form when water seeps into cracks in pavement, freezes, expands, and weakens the surface – an issue made significantly worse by the extra cold Wisconsin winter, which has already resulted in a notable uptick in potholes this winter.
The hot box trailer will improve DPW’s ability to repair potholes. It allows crews to better control the working temperature of both hot and cold mix asphalt, improving patch quality, material workability and overall efficiency. Its large capacity reduces the number of trips needed to pick up additional material, while also allowing crews to recycle stockpiled asphalt and use hot mix when it might not otherwise be available. The equipment also includes safety-focused features, such as a lower-profile shoveling platform and dump position to reduce injury risk, and a platform with an electric hoist for a plate compactor to improve repair quality while minimizing heavy lifting.
“We know how rough this winter has been and that it creates some difficult road conditions across our city,” said Rick Schlesinger, Milwaukee Brewers President – Business Operations. “The Brewers are happy to support our hometown of Milwaukee by providing resources that help keep our community operating smoothly with improved infrastructure. We are ready to lend a hand, on and off the field, to alleviate some of the challenges created by this season’s harsh weather.”
Milwaukee residents can expect to see the Brewers‑branded asphalt truck out on city streets once temperatures rise enough for road‑repair work to begin in earnest this spring. The hope is that with fewer bumps on the way to American Family Field, fans can enjoy smoother rides and more Brewers baseball.
“I’m grateful to the Milwaukee Brewers for providing funding for this pothole filling equipment to our Department of Public Works,” said sponsor Alderwoman Sharlen Moore. “This donation is timely and will surely be a hit with drivers of Milwaukee’s roads.”
