Josh Anderson- Power to the People! Milwaukee should own WE Energies

By - Feb 11th, 2025 06:55 am

At the recent Third Aldermanic District candidate’s forum at ZAO Church Milwaukee, candidate Alex Brower challenged his opponents to pledge to support the Power to the People campaign for public ownership of public utilities in Milwaukee. Josh Anderson was the first to raise his hand.

“The Greater Milwaukee Green Party has been a leading member of the campaign since it first started,” Anderson says. “I’m proud to support the campaign.”

Green Party members have canvassed neighborhoods gathering signatures for the campaign, participated in public rallies and community conversations.

Chapter 197 of Wisconsin Statutes allows municipalities to own public utilities instead of for-profit corporations like WE Energies. Power to the People campaigns to force the Common Council to replace WE Energies with a municipal or cooperative utility, like many other Wisconsin cities and towns.

Josh Anderson recognizes that public ownership of utilities like WE Energies will bring lower energy bills for working people, an immediate, permanent transition away from deadly fossil fuels, and better wages and working conditions for union workers. “When profit is the first priority, people will not be served,” Anderson says.
