Joint Finance Committee Removes Clean Water, Climate Programs, Cuts Access to Parks, Transit
WISCONSIN – Today, the Joint Finance Committee struck hundreds of items from the Governor’s budget and returned the budget to base funding. The eliminations included programs to protect communities from PFAS pollution, lead pipe removal, free fourth grade admission to state parks, transit increases, the creation of Regional Transit Authorities, energy efficiency programs and more.
In response, Elizabeth Ward, Director of Sierra Club Wisconsin, released the following statement:
“Every Wisconsinite deserves clean tap water, access to local parks, affordable energy, reliable transit, and a livable climate. But today, the Joint Finance Committee pushed those goals further out of reach—cutting programs that would clean up our water, expand transit, open public lands, and lower energy bills through efficiency and clean energy.
