It’s Back After a 2-Year Absence Caused by COVID!
20th Annual Humboldt Park Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, April 2
MILWAUKEE (March 10, 2022) — After a two-year hiatus caused by a worldwide pandemic, the 20th annual Easter Egg Hunt returns to Humboldt Park on Saturday, April 2. Humboldt Park Friends (HPF) and the Milwaukee County Parks Department will host the free event.
The Easter Egg Hunt begins exactly at 11 a.m., rain, snow or shine on the west side of the park’s pavilion. It is open to children one-year-old through fourth grade. HPF will have 5,000 candy-filled eggs scattered among five designated age zones – one for 1- and 2-year-olds, a second for 3- and 4-year-olds, a third for 5- and 6-year-olds (1st graders), a fourth for 2nd and 3rd graders, and a zone for 4th graders. Each zone will contain one golden egg with a special prize inside.
The Bay View Lions Club will again host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. inside the pavilion located at Park Road and E. Idaho St. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages and beverages cost $7 per person, $5 for children age 4-11 and $20 for a family of up to six (cash only). There is no charge for children 3 and under. Breakfast is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Lions Club will follow the parks department’s indoor guidelines mandating masks being worn, seating with social distancing and limiting indoor dining to 55 people at a time.
The Easter Bunny will be available for free photos with children and families from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and following the Egg Hunt. There will be a free stroller check-in at the pavilion and egg recycling bins to place plastic eggs in after the egg hunt.
Parking is free along Park Road and Idaho St. within the park and on city streets surrounding the park. HPF asks families to allow plenty of time to find a parking spot and be respectful of neighborhood residents.
HPF is grateful to The Family Mechanic and Karen Block of Lannon Stone Realty for sponsoring the event along with donations from other local businesses.
About Humboldt Park
Originally named South Park, Humboldt Park was one of six parks created when the City of Milwaukee established a Parks Commission in 1890. The original 45-acre park opened in 1891 and a picturesque lagoon and adjoining creek were excavated two years later. In 1900, the park was renamed Humboldt Park in honor of Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt, a Prussian geographer and naturalist who did extensive work on botanical geography. Humboldt Park continues to be a center point of the Bay View neighborhood providing a wealth of events and accessible nature within an urban park setting.
