In recognition of National Nurses Week
Statement of Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic May 12, 2021
Today National Nurses Week comes to a close, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t extend my sincere gratitude for the vital role that nurses have played in our community not just during the last year, but every day.
All the while, we hear of nurses facing challenges such as receiving adequate pay and proper support both in and out of the workplace. These professionals who care deeply shouldn’t have to feel like they are being exploited of their goodwill and kind nature in the name of supporting patients.
As an Alderwoman, chair of the Public Safety and Health (PS&H) Committee, and as a resident I will continue to advocate for and stand with nurses as they fight for better pay, protection and respect while serving our community.
In the meantime as we work toward those goals, I will again say thank you for all that you do, and I look forward to a brief moment of recognition at tomorrow’s PS&H meeting.
