Granville Connection takes step forward

Statement of Alderwoman Chantia Lewis March 24, 2021

Yesterday the Common Council approved a file allowing the Department of City Development to nominate The Granville Connection for a Community Development Investment Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The Granville Connection (modeled after the Sherman Phoenix and the Grow DeSoto Market Place in DeSoto, TX) has been in the works for well over a year, and I am incredibly excited about what this project can bring to the city’s northwest side.

The Granville Connection will serve as an incubator for 45 retail entrepreneurs, food providers, and a venue for weekend music performances. Partners involved in the project will also have access to business coaching and other resources to help scale their business locally.

Despite a setback due to COVID-19, this $250,000 grant would help bring the Granville Connection one step closer to completion. I’m elated to see this project continue to move forward as we target a grand opening later this year, and as we advance our mission to rebuild the New 9th in a way that will be sustainable long into the future. We are surely making the 9th District a thriving place to live, work and have fun.
